Guam - An Astumbo Elementary School teacher has been removed from the classroom following multiple allegations of child abuse. Department of Education deputy superintendent Rob Malay confirms with KUAM News that the agency has been made aware of complaints that have been lodged against a teacher at the school.

The principal was informed of the allegations last Friday and the teacher was removed from the classroom on Monday. Malay says the teacher has been assigned to a division at DOE's Central Office while an administrative investigation is underway.

He adds the principal followed protocol and notified police, Child Protective Services and parents.

Police are investigating the matter but no arrests have been made.
