Guam - Expecting to generate $2 billion in cost savings nationwide the U.S. Postal Service has announced that it will stop mail delivery on Saturdays beginning in August. The USPS noted that it is one of the actions needed to restore the financial health of the Postal Service.

According to the U.S.P. S.,market research conducted by the Postal Service and independent research by major news organizations indicate that nearly seven out of ten Americans (70 percent) supported the switch to five-day delivery as a way for the Postal Service to reduce costs in its effort to return the organization to financial stability.

The Postal Service is currently also implementing major restructuring throughout its retail, delivery and mail processing operations. Officials say Saturday delivery services nationwide and on Guam are scheduled to stop the week of August 5, 2013
