Guam - The University of Guam's Center for Island Sustainability has begun construction on its one-kilowatt wind turbine project. Sustainability coordinator Elvie Tyler tells KUAM News that construction started last week with Pacific-Green Integrated Technology Incorporated pouring the concrete for the base Thursday.

She says 20 days after the curing process, the wind turbine will be installed at House 32. "I think with all the permitting process completed and now we're under the construction and we're very excited to demonstrate this section of our center for island sustainability renewable and alternative energy, and it's going to be a good way to engage the students in capturing data for the wind turbine so we can provide it to the community," she added.

She expects the wind turbine to be up by the end of February. Meanwhile, she adds a second, 10-kilowatt wind turbine is being considered outside of UOG at its Research Division in Inarajan.
