Guam - The Government of Guam Retirement Fund will have a new member for board of director. The Guam Power Authority's James Duenas was elected to the board of directors following this weekend's special election to fill the vacancy left by former Department of Mental Health director Wilfred Aflague since last November.

Executive director of the Guam Election Commission Maria Pangelinan says while there was up to 11,000 eligible voters, about more than a handful only showed up to vote. "And it comes with reason maybe because there was only one candidate and only one person on the ballot and he gets one vote and that should be it," Pangelinan explained. "And the candidate did come into to vote with one other person so there was nine votes all together."

She adds public law mandates the Retirement Fund to pay for the costs of the election, which was estimated under $6,000. The Retirement Fund will hold another election in June 2014 for the entire board. The GEC meanwhile will meet tomorrow at noon to certify the results.
