Guam - The Department of Public Works is the latest agency of the government of Guam to issue its goals for 2013. In 2012 the agency completed several transportation infrastructure projects such as the Wusstig Road intersection, the reconstruction of Alageta St. and the completion of Tri-intersection in Barrigada to name a few.

Here are their goals for this year:

1. Complete on-going road and bridge construction projects on time

and within budget, including the Yona-Pago Bay Route 4, Port Road

(Route 11), the Hagatna Bridges and Routes 1 /8 intersection, the

Yona Ylig Bridge and the Agat Taleyfac Spanish Bridge.

2. Obtain a Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bond for at

least $40 Million to proceed with planning, design, construction and

reconstruction of routed roads, including Hamburger Road (Route

27), Ypao Road (Route 14B) and Tiyan Parkway Phase 1. Other road

improvements, including Airport Road (Route 10A), Cross Island

Road Phase 2B (Route 17), Macheche Road (Route 26), Chalan San

Antonio (Route 14) and mass transit improvements will be done

subject to availability of bond funds.

3. Secure local funds and federal grants to construct, repair and

maintain village roads and mitigate flooding problems. This will

allow the Highway Maintenance and Construction section to

procurement equipment, i.e., a thermoplastic paint striping machine,

an excavator, grader, tractor-mower and supplies, i.e., asphalt, paint,

reflectors, guardrails, etc.

4. Obtain additional federal grants to expand or enhance Office of

Highway Safety programs.

5. Pursue grant application for federal funds to purchase at least twelve

new 60 passenger school buses and to renovate seven dilapidated

school bus satellite substations. Increase the average number of

operable school buses from 110 to 125 in the existing fleet.

6. Complete the renovation of the Building Inspections and Permits

office space and make the facilities ADA compliant to improve the

customer service experience. Implement the computerized Asset

Management System to improve tracking of building permits and

certificates of occupancy. Analyze the building permit and certificate

of occupancy process to reduce the turnaround time.

7. Relocate the Building Construction and Facilities Management staff

from its current location in the DPW compound Building B

warehouse to the concrete building which is temporarily occupied by

the Building Inspections and Permits staff, Treasurer of Guam, Rev &

Tax and GPD.
