Guam - The hits just keep coming for former senator and police captain Mark Charfauros. Not only has he served a five-day suspension for an interview he did with KUAM News following his arrest last month, but now he's been demoted from the rank of police captain to lieutenant.
Just recently Charfauros received a five-day demotion. The Guam Police Department has not commented on the adverse action but KUAM News has learned the demotion took effect last Monday. For the last several months Charfauros has been detailed to the Department of Corrections, assisting that agency with drafting legislation to build a new prison and identifying federal grants.
Charfauros was arrested last month charged with official misconduct for allegedly giving another police officer, who is in jail his cell phone. The police lieutenant told KUAM News she believed his arrest was part of a continued effort by certain police captains to remove him from the force.
Charfauros' attorney, Curtis Van De Veld, has said he will be filing an appeal for the suspension with the Civil Service Commission.
The police department meanwhile has not disclosed the reason for the demotion because it is a personnel matter.
