Guam - Last week alone the Guam Police Department responded to 777 calls and in the last month officers arrested 240 individuals. Reported responding to calls is getting more difficult with only ten working patrol cars for the entire island. The police department fortunately will be getting some help thanks to funding from the Department of the Interior.

Lieutenant Governor Ray Tenorio says GPD will get $350,000 for vehicles, telling KUAM News, "We also have to deal now with the police department where we're see a degradation of their equipment vehicles specifically and the lack of the government appropriations in the general fund to maintain those vehicles."

Tenorio says the police department could have the new vehicles on island and road ready within six months. Additionally he's asked public safety agencies to adopt a single vehicle to purchase over the next five to ten years so that maintenance of the vehicles can be easier by only having to work with one type of patrol cars.
