Guam - Some reorganization may be headed to the Port Authority of Guam, as the agency's board of directors today discussed looking into getting rid of particular divisions that they believe may be extraneous and unnecessary and instead use that money for other critical areas. During today's board meeting, chairman Dan Tydingco discussed possibly getting rid of the Marketing and Corporate Services Division.

He questioned whether there was a need for a full-blown marketing division, considering there's no one to market against as there's only one Port on Guam. He further noted whether an additional layer of management in regards to the corporate services manager was needed as there is already a general and deputy general manager.

He said, "We think that those resources are better put to use for those areas for getting critical essential personnel that are needed for improving operations to the Port, or paying off the obligations that the port has in regards to increments that passed due to the employees, or buying vital and necessary equipment for the port to operate."

It was noted that both divisions cost a total of over $400,000 in salaries, benefits and supplies. They hope to bring the matter to management for further discussion and find out what steps are needed with regards the reorganization suggestion.
