Guam - Governor Eddie Calvo met with Senator Michael San Nicolas today. It was yesterday the freshman policymaker wrote a letter to Calvo requesting that he detail more people to the Department of Revenue & Taxation's collection department to pursue more than $100 million in overdue taxes, of which Senator San Nicolas said $91 million is between one and ten years overdue.
According to Calvo, he is fully aware of the issues at DRT but the shortage of personnel, lack of resources and the deficit has made it difficult to hire additional personnel. He added, "I look forward to working with the senator to see what ways we can do with the limited resources we have towards increasing the collections for receivables that are owed to the Government of Guam."
Senator San Nicolas is also asking for an investigation to be launched into the possibility of tax fraud.
