Ants may overshadow brown tree snake

Guam - Efforts to eradicate the island's newest invasive species are at a standstill. At today's Guam Invasive Species Council meeting entomologist Dr. Ross Miller reported there's no money to eradicate the little fire ant, which was discovered back in November 2011.
He said, "The efforts to get funding have pretty much stalled. We've written about half a dozen grants including a couple of farm bill proposals. One farm bill proposal is still in the works and was written for a quarter of a million dollars to eradicate or at least start a pilot project to eradicate the ant on Guam."
Dr. Miller expects the little fire act to overshadow Guam's leading invasive species, the brown tree snake as they pose major threats to the ecosystem.
