Guam - Motorists traversing along Routes 4 and 10 will notice a better flow of traffic thanks to the addition of a center lane. At today's ribbon cutting ceremony, Ordot-Chalan Pago mayor Jesse Gogue says the addition will greatly reduce traffic accidents.
"The initial design called for four foot bike lanes on both sides of the road, and obviously we had some concerns with pedestrians using those bike lanes as sidewalks. and the fact that we had no turning lane for the motorized traffic along this road," he said.
The federally-funded widening project began in august 2009. It includes the addition of a guardrail, drainage improvements, curb and gutter, utility adjustments, pavement markings, roadway signs, and other incidental work. Contractors Hawaiian Rock Products came under budget at $15 million.
