Guam - Southern residents will likely have to wait another year before seeing any repairs to the Malesso bridges. According to Department of Public Works director carl Dominguez, the agency must first acquire adjacent land before it can move forward.
"The latest on that is that we won't work on those two bridges until we acquire real estate," he said. "We have real estate issues with those bridges, with one property owner they've agreed to sell the property to us and the paperwork for purchasing that property is only a week or two away. But on the other one, the property owner wants to do a land exchange."
Dominguez says the land exchange may cause delays, as the land up for exchange is not registered property. He hopes to have a bid out by September, but with contract and permitting, work to repair the pair of bridges won't start until 2014.
