Guam - Joint Region Marianas commander rear Admiral Tilghman Payne was asked by members of the Rotary Club of Guam about the soon-to-be-closed Admiral Nimitz Golf Course property, which was rumored to be eyed as military housing. He says it will be closed and will wait to see what happens in the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement that is being considered for the Marine Corps laydown.

"Because some of that area is under consideration to be used in some of the combinations, you know there are seven different combinations for firing ranges and five different combinations for cantonment or the sort of headquarters insulation," he said. "Because that property is being considered for some of that lay down, we wouldn't do anything else with it."

It was in December when the Navy announced the golf course would close next month due to significant revenue loses - something Payne estimates about $200,000 a year.
