Guam - Senator Tina Muna Barnes questioned Joint Guam Program Office officials regarding rumors and concerns from constituents that the soon-to-be-closed Admiral Nimitz Golf Course property was being eyed for military housing. "I don't want to say that the rumor is true I will say that I feel your pain with the announcement of the golf course however that announcement was not related to the buildup. That's an operation cost issue," said Joint Guam Program Office director Captain Philip Old.

Senator Barnes recently hosted a meeting during which the local golf community expressed concerns about the course's closure. Senator Brant McCreadie attended that meeting and has since written a letter to Rear Admiral Tilghman Payne relaying his commitment to find alternatives to keep the course open.

It was in December the Navy announced the golf course would close next month due to significant revenue losses.
