Calvo backs Bill 20

Guam - Governor Eddie Calvo is throwing his support behind Senator Dennis Rodriguez Jr.'s GMH Healthcare Trust and Development Act of 2013. Calvo calls Bill 20 a solution to the hospital's challenges, adding insurance companies have been taking advantage of the tax breaks through the qualifying certificate program meant to create a captive health insurance program which has yet to occur.

"So I saw enabling legislation that was not moving forward in regards to the purpose as to why it was created, in terms of bringing outside investment in I see a hospital that's in dire need of financial resources and I see a senators' piece of legislation that deals with both and gives the hospital those resources to provide for better quality care for our people," he said. 

Calvo adds he hopes Bill 20 goes through a speedy passage. Local insurance companies said they were not asked for their input on the bill.
