Guam - The U.S. Coast Guard along with search and rescue crews from the U.S. Navy have launched a mission to provide help to the crew of a Taiwanese flagged fishing vessel located about 80 nautical miles northwest of Guam.

According to a media release the coast Guard has been monitoring the Yow Hsu Man for the last two days after receiving a report that the master was experiencing medical complications. There are a total of nine crewmembers on board. The last contact with the vessel was last night.

A helicopter crew from the USN Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25, (HSC-25) has launched to locate the vessel and assess the situation. Coast Guard Cutter WASHINGTON and the good Samaritan vessel ARDMORE CENTURION, a 540-foot Marshallese tanker are also underway to assist, and are currently experiencing 18-foot seas and winds in excess of 20-knots.

All attempts to hail YOW HSU MAN thus far have been met with silence.   The Coast Guard has enlisted the help of Mandarin and Indonesian speakers to assist in the radio call-outs to the vessel.
