Guam - Starting Tuesday, the Guam Environmental Protection Agency's board of directors will hold special meetings to continue hearing the appeal of Guam Resource Recovery Partners. The company has been waiting for more than a year for the agency to approve their solid waste landfill permit application.

The permit to operate a sanitary landfill in Atantano, Santa Rita was denied by Guam EPA administrator Eric Palacios. He argued that GRRP failed to meet all of the legal requirements to obtain the permit such as a lack of financial assurance, post closure care and plans for the management of leachate.

GRRP contends it has provided all of the necessary information and contends the Guam EPA must approve the permit because they have followed all of the rules. A series of hearings will start Tuesday at 9am in the Guam EPA's conference room in Tiyan.
