Guam - The island recorded its second traffic-related fatality of the year this morning. Police and medics were called to an auto-pedestrian incident just after 11:30 Wednesday night in Tamuning. Highway Patrol Sergeant Mike Aguon says a man driving a black sports utility vehicle struck a man walking on the road throwing him several feet away. Spray paint on the road showed where the pedestrian's eye glasses and slippers had landed upon impact.

Sergeant Aguon told KUAM News, "We had a vehicle heading southbound on route one on the outermost lane just by personal finance center here when a pedestrian on the roadway was struck by that vehicle shortly after midnight the pedestrian was pronounced dead. We're hoping that if there are any witnesses who might have seen the accident could give us a call at 472-8463 or they can call Guam Crimestoppers at 477-HELP."

Police are not releasing the pedestrian's name pending notification of next of kin. They have said he is believed to be in his 40s. An autopsy conducted today revealed the man died from a skull fracture, broken neck, and crushed chest and abdomen.

Samples were submitted to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol.
