Guam - Today, 39 of the 44 Department of Education teachers who failed to pass the Praxis Certification Test reverted to limited-term status. DOE superintendent Jon Fernandez says these teachers did not meet the December 1 deadline to meet teacher certification requirements.
"I've given them the opportunity to stay employed with the department so they continue to earn an income while they continue to try to meet the requirements that are set out by the Certification Commission and the Guam Legislature," he explained.
Two of the 44 affected teachers resigned from the department while one retired and two moved to content areas that they were certified in. DOE is actively recruiting teachers from the UOG School of Education and 14 recent graduates are moving along in the hiring process.
