Guam - It was last month when the Consolidated Commission on Utilities approved the Guam Power Authority's request to file a petition to increase the Levelized Energy Adjustment Clause next month, ultimately raising your power bill. CCU chairman Simon Sanchez says in addition to oil prices, another the reason why the LEAC is increasing is because of a new fuel contract that was just approved by the CCU this week.

He said, "There are three variables that are making the LEAC go up the rising costs of oil, unavailability of Cabras 3 for the next six months because of the replacement of the shaft and a new fuel contract taking affect March 1 which is more expensive than the old fuel contract."

Sanchez adds while it's unfortunate, changes in the LEAC are simply the nature of the business of power on Guam. The LEAC petition would result in about a 7% increase in your bill (around $20) for the typical residential customer.

The LEAC increase is set to take affect on February 1, based on PUC approval.
