Guam - Motivated primarily by the recent Newtown, Connecticut shooting deaths, but also with recent threats on public school safety, Senator Aline Yamashita has planned a series of community meetings to talk about issues facing Department of Education campuses. The recently reelected policymaker has booked time to discuss what she and many others perceive to be the real root of the issue.
Senator Yamashita told KUAM News, "Guns are not the problem; the people are the issue," adding, "until we really help those of us with disabilities and figure out how we intervene and prevent these things from happening again, it's going to happen again. It will not matter if you have all the metal detectors, if you have school resource officers, if you have all that in place."
The meeting starts at 9am Wednesday at the Guam Legislature downtown in Hagatna.
