Guam - There may be nine teacher openings come second semester as a result of the Praxis-I Certification Exam. According to Department of Education superintendent Jon Fernandez, of the 44 teachers who failed to become fully certified by December 1, most have voluntarily resigned and picked up limited term positions to comply with Guam law and remain in good standing with the department as well as keep from disrupting the present school year. We should note, limited term positions may be filled should a fully certified teacher become available for hire.

"Those numbers are changing right now. I've asked our personnel director to notify the principals if they would like to request to fill those positions they should do so now," he said.

Meanwhile, board member Joe San Agustin is concerned that doe isn't pushing recruitment enough. San Agustin says doe must look into the 22 students who recently graduated from the University of Guam School of Education over the weekend.
