Guam - Just as it awaits for its new chief financial officer to arrive on island, the Guam Memorial Hospital held a public hearing on the hospital's proposed new rates, fees and charges. According to acting CFO Jun Infante, the hearings on proposed fee changes are held every three months.
Today's hearing presented 39 new items most, notably increasing its anesthesia conversion factor from $45 to $70. "Actually, these new fees are not going to give us the $22 million that we need to pay vendors right now, it will get us some money but it is not going to get us over," he explained.
The fees pertain to radiology services, pharmaceutical items and operating room supplies. Infante adds that relative to building the hospital's revenue, GMH is also looking into a possible change in room rates and has begun researching by comparing it with other hospitals. All the proposed fees will be presented at the next GMH board meeting, set for December 20 for final approval.
