Guam - It was just after 11:30 last night GPD received an initial report of a riot that happened along Benita Lane in Dededo. "I didn't hear the beginning of what caused it." said Linda Salle. She's been living in the area of Dededo for the last seven months, saying it can get pretty chaotic.

Residents on Benita Lane say it's a quiet neighborhood during the day, but when the sun goes down it turns into an area of Dededo that they fear to be residents of. "I'm just sitting down and listening and trying to mind my own business, and you don't know if it was a good party or what when you hear all the yelling and all that then you just hear some people end up fighting," she said.

She was not sure if the riot involved residents from her street or if they were the usual youngsters she see's strolling around at night. "When there is celebration and alcohol is involved then yes it would happen," she said.

Police responded to the disturbance complaint, but did not find anyone fighting. What's worse is residents say that once police left, the fight continued. But an officer was not immediately available to respond. We should note there are only five police officers per shift and two official vehicles for the entire northern part of Guam. This is the very reason Dededo Mayor Melissa Savares is asking her community to police their neighborhoods.

"The holidays always brings up a little more than usual especially with the Christmas break coming up," she said.

GPD did patrol the area this morning questioning residents and following up on the reported riot. Savares adds several vehicle break-ins were also recently reported in that same area of her village.
