GovGuam must file objections by Friday
Guam - $12 million in tax refunds may have been paid out this past weekend, but by the end of this week the Department of Administration must submit its objections to a proposed permanent injunction that was filed by the plaintiffs in the ongoing tax refund class action lawsuit. The plaintiffs are adamant that they want the Government of Guam to pay tax refunds within six months of their filing.
The proposed injunction also seeks to force the government to file reports on a quarterly basis and the suspension and discontinuation of expedited refund payments. If the government fails to comply with the injunction, the plaintiffs want a receiver appointed, government funds sequestered and contempt proceedings initiated.
According to DOA director Benita Manglona, GovGuam will not be able to pay the refunds within six months without having negative impacts on public sector operations.
