Guam - Lawmakers met for the second day of session discussing five measures, four of which were placed in third reading file including Bill 385 relative to the employment limitations of sex offenders, and Bill 477 relative to levies on earnings. Speaker Judi Won Pat's Bill 509 meanwhile was discussed at length relative to student financial assistance.

The bill gives the University of Guam more control over how the awards are administered. Won Pat discussed the changes to scholarship benefits including removing off-island benefits of the merit scholarship award for those whose majors are not offered on Guam.

"When this programs was first envisioned it made sense to make students take their award off island, but as UOG celebrates 60th anniversary this year we find a more capable university one that is fully accredited and can meet the needs of our local students," she said.

After speaking with legal counsel, Won Pat moved to suspend discussion until session reconvenes this Friday at 10am.
