Frog discovered in Christmas tree shipment

Guam - A container of Christmas trees that were shipped to Guam brought more than the smell of pine.  Customs officers who were conducting an inspection of a 40' container last Friday noticed a frog. 

Customs Lieutenant Ferdinand Soriano told KUAM News, "For now it's not much of a concern yet we've actually had the frog detained and we had the container fumigated so for now we actually have the frog and we're going to turn it over to the Department of Agriculture's Division of Aquatic and Wildlife." 

Last year Customs officers found spiders in a shipment of Christmas trees.  Officials conduct the inspections to ensure that invasive species don't make their way into the island to propagate. Department of agriculture officials are still trying to identify the kind of frog that was found, but Customs officers fondly call him Kermit.
