Guam - The Department of Parks & Recreation is giving a heads-up to residents who have loved ones buried at the Vicente Limtiaco Cemetery. All items that were planted around gravesites must be removed.

The department in the next week will begin uprooting plants and trees in the cemetery to prevent further damage on the grounds caused by the roots. DPR director Pete Calvo also advises residents that Parks & Rec will begin removing flowers on a bi-weekly basis to prevent trash from spreading into the jungle area and toward the roadway.

He said, "I don't want them to be surprised when we start moving them but its all in protection of the grave site so as not to allow tree roots to reach down into the coffin and damage the coffin itself."

Meantime, he adds the department has secured funding to erect a fence at the entrance and backside of the Nimitz Hill cemetery for security reasons.
