Coral a fragile resource

Guam - 40 people participated in today's research symposium hosted by the University of Guam's Western Pacific Coral Reef Institute. According to UOG's assistant vice president for graduate studies and research Dr. John Peterson, today's event allowed for marine experts to reach out to the public.

He said, "I think what the public should know is that these are fragile resources that they are going to be affected by climate change and that they're also affected by the way we use them. Everything from the hotels along the shore in Tumon to fishermen to some extent and also just tourism generally."

Peterson says there's a strong correlation between population and degradation of the resource.
