Guam - An internal affairs investigation was launched at the Department of Corrections today after a complaint alleged that corrections officers were turning away arrestees brought in by Guam Police. DepCor Internal Affairs' Jeff Limo confirms he is looking into allegations that corrections officers told GPD that DepCor management gave the direct order to turn away new arrestees due to overcrowding.

"Our core as officers at the Department of Corrections, we are in no position to refuse anyone however we ask law enforcement to be patient with us," he said. "When the officials down there are utilizing higher officials to get away with what is not right and not good government or good for DepCor, then they will be a report filed with internal."

DepCor has had to constantly transfer detainees to the Mangilao prison, as they are only allowed to have up to 78 at a time in Hagatna. He says 40 detainees will be transferred by the end of this week to prevent any delays in taking in arrestees. In the meantime, limo anticipates the IA investigation to be completed by next week.
