Gym contractors looking at $68K in liquidated damages

Guam - Two DOE school gym renovations may be complete, but have yet to open doors. According to deputy superintendent of finance and administrative services Taling Taitano, contractor Loyal Pacific will be fined more than $68,000 in liquidated damages for failing to meet their January deadline for their work on the Untalan Middle School's gym in Barrigada.
In DOE superintendent Jon Fernandez's recent report to the Guam Education Board, he states contractors now await a shipment of floor tiles, but anticipate opening before the end of this year.
Meanwhile, the Oceanview Middle School Knights can look forward to playing a home game as early as next month. A fire alarm system must be installed and the gym inspected before opening in November.
Contractor Z4 will not be assessed liquidated damages because installation of a fire alarm system was not included in the original scope of work.
