Suicide prevention training this month

September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse invites youth, families, and community leaders to learn about the fifth leading cause of death on our island.

Guam - September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse invites youth, families, and community leaders to learn about the fifth leading cause of death on our island. Gathering of Native Americans training is set for this month to engage service providers in the Pacific to build community wellness effort with a focus on prevention of suicide, bullying, and violence; mobilize and empower the local community to bring about positive change; create a personal wellness plan to enable individuals to determine the level of self-care needed to engage effectively in the community wellness effort and to begin creation of a community wellness plan to prevent suicide, bullying, and violence.

GONA training is set for September 10-13 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel from 8am-5pm. DMHSA, Department of Youth Affairs, Just Say No Dance Crew, Southern Christian Academy, Sanctuary Inc, Guam Community College, Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Belau are some of the attendees.

Training for trainers will follow September 14 and 15.
