Guam - About 150 airmen from Andersen Air Force Base's 554th Red Horse Squadron are preparing for deployment to Afghanistan. The airmen were briefed about what to expect in theater as well as given logistical and medical assistance prior to deployment. Unit commander Lieutenant Colonel Chris Fuller says his team will relieve the Guam Air National Guard's 254th squadron who are slated to return in a couple months.
"We got a presence we will have within the entire Gulf area to include Afghanistan and what I would expect is that there is going to be some heavy construction we are going to do to help facilitate the eventual withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan," he said.
The unit will deploy next month for a total of six months in support of the war on terror.
