Petition to adjust rate hikes approved
Guam - Back in May over a thousand customers were affected by a base rate adjustment that resulted in substantially higher power bills. And while GPA had already started moving most commercial or large customers to their correct rate classes in order to fix the problem, the Public Utilities Commission formally approved GPA's petition to adjust these rate hikes.
According to Consolidated Commission on Utilities chairman Simon Sanchez, the PUC agreed to an interim measure that would move about 1,000 customers to a different class along with slow the transition to this new rate structure for close to 300 customers.
"But for now as an interim measure, the changes GPA proposed and the PUC accepted last night, would allow us to go back to the May 1 rate increase and fix the rates for about 1,000 of our 49,000 customers that got charges that were far more than anyone had anticipated, so we're very grateful for the PUC that they accepted our proposal," he said,
The CCU meanwhile will be meeting this evening.
