Guam - It's taken six years, but the Bile and Pigua Bridges in Merizo will finally be repaired, which means motorists won't have to deal with the one lane traffic much longer. Senator Mana Silva Taijeron and Merizo mayor Ernest Chargualaf have been pushing for the repair for quite some time.

According to the Governor's Office, the Department of Public Works had to work out title issues that prevented it from fixing the bridges. The government has to acquire lots from property owners in order to repair the bridges. Engineering design for both bridges is nearly complete. Bidding for construction is scheduled for May 4, 2013, with the notice to proceed for construction scheduled for February 2014.

Should DPW be able to acquire the nearby lots sooner, the schedule can be moved up. Both Senator Taijeron and Mayor Chargualaf say they are pleased to see some real progress on the issue.
