Guam - Department of Education superintendent Jon Fernandez is working to address safety issues at public schools. Vicente Benavente Middle School and Finegayan Elementary School were broken into last week. Parts were stripped from the middle school's library computers as well as two laptops and a media projector from the elementary school.

Fernandez met with his staff, including facility and maintenance and safety administrators Monday morning. There they discussed a possible RFP to solicit for security solutions that would apply across the district and consolidated grant money that may be used for security cameras to help protect any equipment, especially technology, purchased with federal dollars.

Ultimately, Fernandez is looking to work with community partners, including the Guam Police Department and village mayors to protect the schools through weekend and after school patrols.
