Guam - As part of a court order along with having many of its water meters failing at a higher rate than the national average, the Guam Waterworks Authority will continue its new meter replacement program this week. According to GWA spokesperson Heidi Ballendorf, the utility agency will be in the villages of Dededo and Yigo this week replacing non-registering meters to new badger meters.
"So meters that are in the ground right now that people have had, and customers know because maybe every month their meter hasn't been working and they've constantly had to have their meters replaced," she said. "So we are now going after those meters first."
Ballendorf adds the meters will help customers get a more accurate water bill. GWA will be replacing 100-150 water meters daily with the replacement requiring that water be shut off to homes for approximately 35 minutes. The new meters have already been installed in Hagatna, Maite, Anigua, Agana Heights and Sinajana.
