SROs return to island schools

Guam - The new school year has just started and already George Washington is on red alert after a death threat was made against one of its students. School resource officers have returned to the island's high schools as well after returning from a national conference in Nevada. Department of Education safety officer Bruce Williams says the data at the conference shows that SROs are extremely effective. He's hoping to get a few more on board.
"We expect to have a few more officers in the schools by the end of the year, and in the first quarter we will focus on high schools and once they get settled they will start going into the middle schools because at the middle school age this is where the kids are testing their wings," he explained.
Williams says the SROs act as a deterrent and also act as a role model for kids. They also received active shooter training and Williams reiterated the need for the SROs to be armed, which he says, eventually they will be.
