Guam - A local high school is on red alert after a student's life was threatened via Facebook. The issue has captured the attention of both local and federal authorities.

"Out of all the years I've ever been here this has been the second most difficult, toughest case I've ever had, its very difficult because when we are dealing with Internet, who's to say how many is involved and then we have a trail so this is very difficult," said George Washington High School assistant principal of discipline Gaylene Cruz. She was shocked to hear one of her students was threatened online. "We did get information from parents because they were concerned," she noted.

And immediately Guam Police was called. GPD spokesperson Sergeant Mike Aguon said, "A female minor reported she was threatened by a male minor via Facebook that he wanted to cause seriously bodily injury to her current boyfriend. Basic threats sent via electronically, but as for the details I can't disclose at this time because it's still under investigation."

School officials were notified that a male student had been threatened by a former student who currently lives off-island. KUAM News has learned that the suspect allegedly claims he has ties with a dangerous gang and is making efforts to come to Guam to kill the student. The FBI and the Attorney General's Office were called in to investigate.

Cruz says the school has already taken safety measures, noting, "The only concern I had was because one of the students, the victim is supposedly still attending GW and we wanted make sure we took proactive measures and made sure we got the full details to make sure he's safe here. The kids are safe, the party is not here on campus at all and we know that and we just want to get to the bottom of the story if its true and if he's going to carry it out."

KUAM has learned at least a handful of other students may be involved in this case. Authorities have not made any arrests. Meantime, the Mangilao campus remains on red alert.

As for how authorities plan on tracking down the suspect? "Because it involved computers, we also forward it to the federal side, anything via computers, texting electronically is sent federally and if they get involved we can send to them to the location where the suspect is. And have him interviewed if he was in fact Facebook threats. 2801

Meanwhile, Cruz advises parents, "I ask the parents to please screen your children, monitor what they are putting on their cell, iPhones and Facebook."
