Response pending on AG's building safety

Guam - The Department of Public Works anticipates feedback from the landlord at the former Pedro's Plaza in Hagatna this week on an assessment recommended to determine if the building the Attorney General's Office is working out of is safe. DPW deputy director Carl Dominguez says the agency sent two civil engineers to visually inspect the building, but they aren't qualified or certified to determine the building's structural integrity.
"They saw some corrosion on post tension cables used to reinforce the structural integrity of the concrete slabs so the complaint by some of the staff by the AG's office over the months and years is that they are hearing cracking sounds coming from the walls and we suspect some of the strands and cables are starting to snap," he said.
He adds the building landlord was given until the end of this week to have certified structural engineers conduct an inspection.
