Guam - Around this time last year there were only three working ambulances for the entire island. And according to Guam Fire Department Fire Chief Joey San Nicolas, all seven units operating today are new, including the leased units.
GFD just got three brand new ambulances that are already active. San Nicolas says the new units give the department some breathing room to fix its ailing fleet, telling KUAM News, "Our older inventory is going through much-needed repair and maintenance and now that we have the new ambulances on the road we can take our time and do it right in as far as the older units."
Three more ambulances are expected to arrive on island next month. Those were purchased with Department of the Interior technical assistance grants. San Nicolas says once those arrive, the department will assess if they still need to lease ambulances.
