Guam - Summer is officially coming to a close as over 30,000 public school students gear up for the first day of classes on Monday. Department of Education superintendent Jon Fernandez says principals are checking off their work orders and submitting their declarations to open their doors.
"We are ready to go on August 20 and we're continuing to do everything we need to do up to the cleanups this weekend, those last minute touchups. But on August 20 I will be out there dropping my daughter off at school then visiting the other schools to make sure that our partners in the community, our parents families feel welcome and are ready to start a new school year," said Fernandez.
All schools are set to open on time, including George Washington High School. Fernandez says the procurement of $150,000 to lease 12 to 15 buses so the Mangilao school can break into double session is being finalized. 17 of the school's classrooms are being renovated for science, technology, engineering, and math upgrades.
