Guam - A man who is accused of trying to conceal his bogus marriage so he could obtain full permanent resident status was arrested on Guam today. Zahidul Islam was indicted in the CNMI on Monday charged with conspiring to commit offenses and defraud the United States.

The indictment accuses Islam of marrying a woman in May 2006 to apply for immigration benefits. Islam allegedly tried to make the marriage appear legitimate by purchasing life insurance, putting the woman's name on his vehicle ownership and claiming that they had been living together since the marriage. The U.S. Attorney's Office filed a petition for removal to have Islam returned to the NMI to answer to the charges there.
