Guam - The Home of the Geckos will start classes with the rest of the island's public schools on Monday. According to George Washington High School assistant principal Gaylene Cruz, DOE, DPW, and the Governor's Office are finalizing the procurement of $150,000 in ARRA money to fund the lease of 12 to 15 busses, fuel costs, and bus driver overtime so the school may break into double session for the duration of first quarter.

Science, technology, engineering, and math renovations to 17 classrooms at the Mangilao school are well underway. Cruz says she's seeing contractors BME & Sons work day and night to meet their October deadline.  "It's moving real quick, and as long as Mother Nature is good to us I believe they're going to meet their 60-day mark," she proclaimed. "The contractor that's doing the construction work, they're pretty good they're actually pulling in night shifts and weekend shifts, so they're working as fast as they can. It's an improvement and I'm happy to see its happening finally for our students."

Upperclassmen are set to attend morning sessions from 7am to 12:10 and freshmen will attend afternoon classes from 12:15 to 5:30. Cruz asks that students utilize DPW school bus services to and from school to minimize traffic at school gates. If students must be dropped-off, she asks that drivers follow traffic directions.
