Guam - During last night's Consolidated Commission on Utilities meeting, GPA gave commissioners an update on two important activities that will have positive effects on customers' power bills. The first action item dealt with an emergency petition to the Public Utilities Commission that seeks to provide closure to the recent controversy surrounding the unintended impact to commercial customers' accounts when they were inadvertently overcharged.

"It's part of that resolution plan to help those customers who are unintentionally adversely affected with the base rate adjustment, which took affect when the PUC approved it on May 1," noted GPA spokesperson Art Perez. He said the petition will help to better recover for fixed costs and stretch out some recovery costs as well.

The second action item meanwhile sought authorization to obtain refinancing of an existing 1990s bond debt, which has the potential to save approximately $9 million on debt service.
