Guam - With less than a week until the start of classes, public school teachers are getting schooled on the common core state standards. According to Wettengel Elementary School principal Melissa Limo, teachers have a lot of questions on the newly adopted curriculum.

"Common Core is not going to happen overnight," she said, "it is something that we as a department will have to work very closely with the teachers - to unpack the standards repack it read it and just prepare them, it's a big movement but we're excited about it. The department is coming together to try and help the teachers."

Common Core focuses on a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn and emphasizes college and career readiness. The teacher workshops come to a close on Wednesday.
