Guam - There's been a few developments in moving the military buildup on Guam forward since a congressional delegation last visited our island last year. And while island leaders anticipate the codel for the next few days, they're also hoping to get more positive news from our nation's capital.

It was late last month in his farewell address that Rear Admiral Paul Bushong urged island leaders to step up and lead in order to move the buildup forward. Senator Judi Guthertz meanwhile says lawmakers actually have been working hard and hopes to show a congressional delegation set to arrive this evening. "It's always good when we have federal representatives come here, members of the congress so I'm looking forward to the opportunity to meet with him and his thinking is on the Asia pacific realignment plan," she said.

Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo will accompany the codel led by South Carolina representative Joe Wilson who is a member of the House Armed Services Committee. Wilson is also the chairman of the Subcommittee on Military Personnel and will be joined by professional staff from the committee while on Guam. And according to Governor Eddie Calvo, Wilson is no stranger to Guam having last visited Guam back in 2009. "Right now with his chairmanship position in a very important subcommittee armed services I do believe we have a friend when it comes to this buildup. Again, what we'd like to do is get some further information to him on how things are moving forward," she said.

And with recent developments including the completion of the independent analysis by the Center for Strategic and Independent Studies on the force posture of the Asia Pacific Region last month, Calvo says it's only positive news for the territory.

"Again, what we'd like to do is get some further information to him on how things are moving forward. From what is sounds the report that came out from the independent assessment group is very positive for the starting of some work in Guam and spending some of that money that has been held in the treasury," he said.

Guthertz adds while Bushong may have had his own perspective in terms of lawmakers dialogue with past codel, with this visit, she instead wants to hear what news they have for us. She said, "Usually when these folks come we're the ones that share information but i think its time for them to share information with us 2428 what is their plan and how committed are they to move forward with the realignment. We're committed - are they committed?"
