Guam - Chamorro Land Trust Commission administrator Monte Mafnas and Governor Eddie Calvo believe the U.S. Department of Justice investigation into the Constitutionality of the law that created the CLTC is much ado about nothing.

As we reported the AG's Office was notified about the DOJ investigation prompted by local resident Dave Davis who filed a complaint alleging the CLTC violated the Fair Housing Act when it denied him a lease. "It would seem to me that the Department of Justice is spending a lot of time on things that I think that I believe are not very productive to our community they should spend their time on other areas that I believe are much more a concern to this island and to the United States," said Calvo.

Mafnas added, "It is my opinion that Chamorro Land Trust is constitutional and organic anyone born and living on Guam prior to august 1950 is considered a native Chamorro. It does not matter what ethnicity they are - its ironic that Mr. Davis filed a complaint through the Department of Housing and Urban Renewal HUD and we have nothing to do with them at this time. Maybe in the future we hope to do some plans but we never a received a dime or penny from them so I don't understand their claims."

Regardless, Mafnas says he will be meeting with the attorney general to provide whatever documents are necessary as part of the Justice Department's investigation. Davis meanwhile has also filed a civil suit in the District Court alleging the political status plebiscite is discriminatory.
