DYA client escaped through worn-out barricade

The Department of Youth Affairs confirms a 16-year-old male client escaped last month through worn out hard wire mesh that barricaded the facility's Foxtrot Unit.

Guam - The Department of Youth Affairs confirms a 16-year-old male client escaped last month through worn out hard wire mesh that barricaded the facility's Foxtrot Unit. DYA director Adonis Mendiola says a lack of inspection of the barricade and limited staffing are contributing factors to the escape.

He says disciplinary action will also be served on the officers working at the time of the escape. DYA has since retrofitted and doubled the hard wire mesh surrounding the unit.
