GIAA reevaluating emergency response
GIAA's board and management is reevaluating how the airport responds to emergency situations where immediate medical attention is required.
Guam - A July incident where a transiting passenger suffered a heart attack and died while at the Guam International Airport Authority has prompted the agency's board and management to evaluate how the airport responds to emergency situations where immediate medical attention is required.
GIAA board chairman Michael Ysrael said, "I've also received reports along the line of, for instance, an airplane arrives and there's somebody under medical distress in the airplane. And apparently there's a big issue about clarifying jurisdiction. ARRF shows up but ARRF says we're not supposed to board the plane airport security shows up and again they say the plane belongs to. We need to clear up the thing because right now there's some potential for confusion."
Management and the board are also looking to get all airport firefighters and airport police officers trained in CPR and certified in various levels of emergency response.
In the July incident, GIAA staff responded accordingly.
